چکیده

This paper is devoted to the study of truthful mechanisms without payment for the many-to-many assignment problem. Given n agents and m tasks, a mechanism is truthful if no agent has an incentive to misreport her values on the tasks (agent ai reports a score wij for each task tj). The one-to-one version of this problem has already been studied by Dughmi and Ghosh [4] in a setting where the weights wij are public knowledge, and the agents only report the tasks they are able to perform. We study here the case where the weights are private data. We are interested in the best approximation ratios that can be achieved by a truthful mechanism. In particular, we investigate the problem under various assumptions on the way the agents can misreport the weights.

Truthful Mechanisms for Matching and Clustering in an Ordinal World

We study truthful mechanisms for matching and related problems in a partial information setting, where the agents’ true utilities are hidden, and the algorithm only has access to ordinal preference information. Our model is motivated by the fact that in many settings, agents cannot express the numerical values of their utility for different outcomes, but are still able to rank the outcomes in t...

Truthful Mechanism Design without Money: No Upward Bidding

Gibbard-Satterthwaite (G-S) theorem rules out the existence of any truthful, non-dictatorial and unanimous social choice function whose range comprises three or more alternatives. To circumvent the G-S impossibility, researchers have introduced restricted domains with additional assumptions to admit truthful mechanisms. We follow this line of research and look at a setting in which a set of ite...

Truthfulness for the Sum of Weighted Completion Times

We consider the problem of designing truthful mechanisms for scheduling selfish tasks on a single machine or on a set of m parallel machines. The objective of every selfish task is the minimization of its completion time while the aim of the mechanism is the minimization of the sum of weighted completion times. For the model without payments, we prove that there is no (2 − )-approximate determi...

A Truthful-in-Expectation Mechanism for the Generalized Assignment Problem

We propose a truthful-in-expectation, (1 − 1 e )-approximation mechanism for the generalized assignment auction. In such an auction, each bidder has a knapsack valuation function and bidders’ values for items are private. We present a novel convex optimization program for the auction which results in a maximal-in-distributional-range (MIDR) allocation rule. The presented program contains at lea...

Truthful Combinatorial Assignment without Money

Mechanism design with agents who do not have quasi-linear preferences is an important line of research in social choice theory. Finding domains which admit truthful mechanisms is of central importance, particularly due to the well known impossibility result by Gibbard and Satterthwaite. In this paper we introduce a general framework for combinatorial assignments without money but with public va...
